As widely reported in recent days, Apple’s latest 27-inch iMac has had some hardware problems out of the box, and fixing the issues has caused shipping delays for new orders. The company is now working to remedy those problems, complete with a reported apology.
Apple hasn’t directly addressed the various complaints of hardware issues in their new super-sized iMac, nor that those issues are actually causing delays in shipping the units. Apple’s support forums have been filling up recently with reports of screen flickering and distortion in the graphics hardware, although not all users appear to be afflicted by such problems.
According to AppleInsider, Digital Daily approached Apple for a comment on the matter and was told: “The new iMac has been a huge hit and we are working hard to fulfill orders as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience or delay in delivery this may cause our customers.”
Over the weekend, authorized resellers reported to Computerworld
that shipments of the 27-inch iMac have been delayed as the reports of
flickering screens have mushroomed. Resellers have been notified to
expect delays of around two weeks.
The latest iMac refresh was launched in October and quickly became Apple’s best-selling machine for that month. Overall Mac sales in October were up 7%, with analysts projecting sales of 2.9 million systems for the quarter.
The smiles turned to frowns, however, as units started arriving in November with hardware issues, including cracked screens or displays that simply didn’t work at all. Issues with Flash video playback were also reported shortly after new buyers started using their systems, as witnessed in this YouTube video:
