Patently Apple, that wonderful repository of all things Apple's trying to get a patent on, revealed yesterday that Apple was recently awarded eight new patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office, and that second on the list was a previously unknown, but undeniably sexy hybrid DisplayPort/USB 3.0 adapter.
This is cool because, well, USB 3.0 is cool, and so is any awesome new technology, which this looks like it is. The hybrid connector would allow you to connect your favourite Apple product (Patently Apple says that the iPod line would likely be the first to take advantage of this new technology, with the rest of the line eventually getting it) with either a DisplayPort or USB 3.0 interface, all from the same connector. This would allow Apple to finally provide support for USB 3.0 -- which is way faster than USB 2.0, thus better -- while also allowing them to continue on with their obsessive crusade to only ever have a single connector on their iOS devices.
