Apple thinks you should and to make it even more tempting by giving away episodes for free. Thanks to readers of The Unofficial Apple Weblog who noticed that of the sixteen shows available in HD format, iTunes is giving away the first episode of nine of them and an episode in the middle of the season of a tenth. They are:

Fun Runs, Pts. 1 & 2 – The Office, Season 4
Lipstick Jungle: Pilot – Lipstick Jungle, Season 1
Four Months Later… - Heroes, Season 2
Pilot – In Plain Sight, Season 1
Mr. Monk Buys a House – Monk, Season 7
Ghosts – Psych, Season 3
Merit Badge: Pilot – Life, Season 1
Bad to the Drone – Eureka, Season 3
Secrets and Lies – 30 Rock, Season 2
Just enough to get you hooked, right? Along with the HD version is packed a version that you can take with you on your iPod. You might not want to start downloading these at the local coffee house, however. The download times for the HD versions will have you going through a Venti and then some!

I tried to get the Battlestar episode last night around 12am PST and though I can add the title to my shopping cart, it appears grayed out there. Where the "Get Episode" button usually is there is an "Unavailable" button instead. Frustrating. I guess the servers are just swamped.
I also tried to get the podcast of the "Let's Rock" event and the download stalled at just 20MB with a download time of 46 hours. Ouch!
Cool that you get a SD version with an HD download. I wonder how long before we get HD capable iPods. It will get kind of cumbersome if you've got two versions of a full season of a TV show.
