Good news this month for iPhone users who like to stream video from their devices. First, Steve Jobs himself blessed the
Knocking Live Video app for iPhone-to-iPhone streaming, and now Ustream has released a new app called
Live Broadcaster to stream video from your camera to the web.
Ustream has been available on the App Store for awhile, but was limited by Apple’s strict policy that users could only upload video to the web after you had finished filming it -- no live streaming. iPhone users with jailbroken devices were able to circumvent this limitation, but now Apple has fully blessed Ustream Live Broadcaster for everyone.
For those unfamiliar with Ustream, it’s one of the leading live interactive broadcasting platforms, enabling anyone to quickly broadcast to a global audience of unlimited size. Easily stream live moments from your phone and share them with your friends, family, fans, followers and others -- and even have the option to keep your recording when you’re finished streaming.
Ustream Live Broadcaster works with both the iPhone 3G and 3GS over Wi-Fi or a 3G data connection. Live feeds can be shared with Ustream, YouTube, Twitter or Facebook and you can view chats and Social Streams live as well as share your GPS location.
Video can be streamed in portrait mode only in both 320x240 and 176x144 resolution. You can send a tweet whenever you go live to alert your Twitter followers that you’re on, and a handy viewer count shows how many people are watching. You can even initiate a live yes/no poll and see the results in real time.
Ustream Live Broadcaster hit the App Store today and the free app requires iPhone OS 3.1 or later.
