It's that time again! Apple converged on the city of San Jose, California on Tuesday morning to kick off its "we've got a little more to show you" event where the company's key executives are expected to debut a roster of new products.
Apple kicked off its latest media event right on schedule at 10am PST (1pm EST) at the California Theatre in San Jose, where CEO Tim Cook hit the stage running to announce what the wizards in Cupertino have brewing this month.
Cook began the event by updating journalists on the iPhone 5, which sold five million units in the first weekend, touting it as "the fastest-selling phone in history."
Next up: Apple retail stores, with a video showing eager customers lining up in locales all around the world for the iPhone 5 launch. Needless to say, there are plenty of smiling faces and happy buyers.
"Our teams work incredibly hard to deliver amazing products like iPhone 5, and seeing this type of customer response reminds us of why we absolutely love to do it," Cook added.
Moving on to the company's new iPod lineup introduced alongside the iPhone 5 last month, Cook touted initial sales of three million units sold, calling the reception "fantastic."
Moving on to iOS 6, Cook announced that the mobile OS has already been installed on more than 200 million devices -- a "phenomenal" upgrade rate that got a round of applause from those in attendance.
"iOS 6 and Mountain Lion are designed to let Macs and iOS devices operate together seamlessly," Cook elaborated, noting there are already more than 125 million Documents in the Cloud hosted on iCloud, with a whopping 300 billion iMessages having been sent since launch.
"We are currently sending them at 28,000 per second, maybe even more by now!" Cook quipped.
Game Center also appears to be popular with users, with more than 160 million accounts in use. Shared Photo Streams have already racked up more than 70 million photos shared with family and friend as well.
Cook next announced that the App Store has served up 35 million apps thus far, with 700,000 different titles and 275,000 specific to the iPad. Developers have been paid more than $6.5 billion so far!
In addition to the near-mythical iPad mini, Apple also introduced a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display, refreshed Mac mini, all-new iMacs and a fourth-generation iPad at today's event.
