ChangeWave, a market research firm, released its latest quarterly consumer Smart Phone survey yesterday
which reports on market share trends for Research in Motion, Apple and
Palm.
The report was an analysis of data taken in September showing that Apple's market share of smart phones had risen from 25% to 30% between June and September. The analysis compared the iPhone market share to that of Research in Motion. RIM has lost market share and currently stands at 40%. Palm seems to be holding steady at around 7%, after a steep decline from its top spot earlier in the decade.
Smart phone ownership continues to grow, with 39% of surveyed cell phone owners reporting that they own a smart phone, which is up from 37% last quarter. Apple also continues its rise in the smart phone market, with 36% of survey respondents planning to buy a smart phone in the next 90 days are looking to buy an iPhone. Only 27% of those surveyed are interested in Research in Motion's BlackBerry.
