(Image courtesy of Gizmodo)Nearly lost among all of the iPad pre-launch hysteria this week is word that the U.S. International Trade Commission has agreed to move Apple’s patent claims against HTC forward.
Gizmodo reports that the U.S. International Trade Commission has formally agreed to investigate Apple’s patent complaint against rival HTC. As you recall, Apple fired the opening salvo in a “sweeping accusation of patent theft” against their Android-loving competitors. The process is expected to be long and ugly, but if Apple wins, it could be a U.S. ban on HTC-produced handsets.
The ITC now has 45 days to set a target date as to when their investigation will conclude, which is likely to be many months from now. Whatever the outcome, “any actionable ruling would have to be implemented within 60 days.” But as Gizmodo points out, it’s unlikely that the ITC will go with any sort of wide-scale ban against HTC products.
