Apple Declares: No Core i3 For You, MacBook Pro!
Apple offers an acceptable technical reason for not offering the Intel Core i3 processor in it's newly updated line of MacBook Pro laptop computers this week in a conversation they had with techradar.com.
Unfortunately, the speed craving power users out there will be disappointed since Apple will continue to use the Intel Core 2 Duo line of processors in the 13-inch MacBook Pros. Marc Chacksfield of Techradar.com points out that there is nothing wrong with this decision by Apple, with the exception of losing the enhanced performance that the Core i3 offers.
Chacksfiled spoke to Tore Fretheim, who is a member of Apple's Product Marketing team, and Apple is focusing on providing an "optimal combination for performance battery life and mobile design and we think we have acheived that with what we are offering."All of this might seem like a change in direction from what you would normally expect out of a "Pro" labled notebook -- which should have has much power as possible. Right? Not so fast; if you think about it, Apple's focus on increasing the time we can spend with our notebooks makes sense. After all, isn't battery life regarded as one of the major complaints of Apple's iDevices?
Apple began optimizing Mac OS X with the release of Snow Leopard, and now Apple is looking at doing the same thing with mobile devices. Hopefully, we will see some of the same attention put into optimizing battery life spent on future models of the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.
Would you rather have a computer that is faster than greased lighnting, or one that you can use for a longer period of time and still performs adequately?
