Apple has increased the number of iPad 2 expected to ship over the next few months from 7-9 million units to 12-14 million units, according to a report from DigiTimes. Referring to unamed "market watchers", the report indicates that Apple is now "more aggressive" placing orders for iPad 2, and is "piling up inventory" of components to prevent a potential shortage.
Shipping 14 million iPads in the next quarter would be a huge increase from the 4.69 shipped during March, a number that made Wall Street a little sad, when high demand and limited supplies created what Tim Cook described as "the mother of all backlogs."
Apple recently announced that total iPad sales have exceeded 25 million in just over a year, a number that first hinted at the likelihood of crushing expectations for the rest of the year.
