Apple's iPad has undoubtedly remained the darling of the tablet market, a device with such continued high demand, that shipping times still stand at 1-2 weeks at the online Apple Store. Due to this success, it has left Apple executives believing that the tablet market will soon surpass PCs.
In a new research note from Goldman Sachs analyst Bill Shope, he gave details on a recent meeting that he had with Tim Cook, Ron Johnson and Peter Oppenheimer of Apple. Shope stated that the execs were considerably optimistic about the future of iOS, especially as it relates to the iPad.
Shope says, "the company appeared more overtly optimistic on the long-term prospects for the iOS platform than it has been in quite some time."
Why?
For one, Cook said, "he sees no reason why the tablet market shouldn't eclipse the PC market over the next several years," according to Shope's note.
In a separate article that related information from the note, Shope reported that Apple is again stating its preference for an "integrated" ecosystem for iOS over the "fragmented" one that it sees for the Android platform. While Apple's execs did admit that the Android strategy could yield market share gains during the short term, ultimately the fragmented approach would hinder the user experience.
