Apple Joins Tech Giants in Call for Global Government Surveillance Reform

While Apple may publicly oppose government surveillance, I wonder if they are simply jealous.

In the current version of Mavericks, I can sync my music, photos and other media to my Apple iPhone through my USB cable. But not my Contacts. Contacts can only be synced through Apple's server (iCloud). Calendars, also.

For those of us who have signed nondisclosure agreements or simply wish to not have their personal Contacts copied to Apple's server, the choices are 1) downgrade to Mountain Lion, 2) duplicate the Contact manually on the iPhone or 3) migrate to a different platform.

Apple's over-zealous desire to copy my Contacts onto their server makes their government surveillance opposition ironic.
