There's a new man in town to ensure Apple products continue to try and meet the "highest standards of quality." Well, sort of new man. It's Jeff Williams, who's actually been with Apple for about a decade, according to AppleInsider.
Granted, such a move probably doesn't come as much of a surprise given the iPhone 4's recent problems. But Jeff Williams was promoted this month to Senior Vice President of Operations and will become COO Tim Cook's right hand man.
Prior to Williams becoming Vice President of Operations in 2004, Williams headed up Apple's worldwide procurement and was responsible for managing Apple's supply chain and lining up components for its venture into the digital music player world.
Apple also said that Williams had a major role in Apple's jumping into the cell phone industry and since then, has led worldwide operations for both iPod and iPhone. In this new positions, Williams will be able to concentrate on product quality and head up a group of people throughout the world for end-to-end supply chain management.
On the side, many think that Apple is trying to groom Williams for Cook's position as chief operation officer in the event that Cook takes over for current CEO Steve Jobs. Cook has been rumored to be the heir to the Apple throne, once Jobs steps down.
