Apple COO, Tim Cook put the smack down on speculation surrounding a
rumored Apple NetBook device. In the company's Q2 results call, Cook
described the current field of NetBooks as having
"cramped keyboards, terrible software, junky hardware, very small
screens" and "not something we would put the Mac brand on." He also added that if an opening for innovative hardware appears, Apple will jump in.
Using our Apple to English translator, we take this to mean that, everybody is doing it wrong, they all suck, and we will have something better when we are good and ready. Oh, and it won’t be called a NetBook.
Industry reports keep piling up, pointing to black-ops style NetBook shenanigans taking place beyond the drawbridge at Castle Cuppertino. Quanta and Foxconn are rumored to be duking it out for a shot to build the wee computer and large orders of 10-inch touchscreens may, or may not be, on order from Apple.
Even with NetBooks gaining popularity in the WIndow and Linux world, it's hard to determine if Apple finds the devices dreadful or if they are play coy and are secretly buildingsome sort of NetBook. Called something completely different of course.
