Apple Now Using iTun.es to Shorten Links on Ping
You may recall that Apple’s music-themed Ping social network got friendly with Twitter last month but failed to shorten links shared with the service at first. Not only has that now been addressed, but Apple is using their own “iTun.es” domain to do so.
MacRumors is reporting that Apple has switched the domain used to shorten links shared with their Ping social service on Twitter, from “t.co” to their own “iTun.es” domain, which the company has owned for four years, dating back to December, 2006. It’s a minor but welcome change which makes Ping’s sharing capability feel a bit more connected to iTunes.
No one is sure why, but it took Apple a month to roll out the iTun.es domain for link shortening. “Users sharing links to iTunes Store content to Twitter will now see iTun.es being used to generate the links for the tweets,” MacRumors notes. “Third-party Twitter applications may, however, continue to display Twitter’s default ’t.co’ shortened version.”
Now, Apple, about that Ping integration with Facebook…
