Apple recently posted a list of iPad-ready websites at its own site, apple.com.
Though the list is not a list of every site that works on the iPad, it touches on some of the major sites that have embraced technologies such as HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
The listing is part of Apple's effort to advance the open standards, in hopes that developers will support those technologies instead of other, proprietary technologies such as Adobe Flash or Microsoft Silverlight.
Because there is no Flash or Silverlight on the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, users can expect a sub-par experience at sites that depend on those technologies. (Newgrounds, for example.)
The way we see it, there are two ways to solve the problem. One is to add support for Flash or Silverlight on Apple mobile devices. The other is to change the world, and get developers to embrace open standards.
Apple has a decent track record in the world-changing department lately; that's probably why sites like Time, National Geographic, The New York Times, and even The White House have made sure their sites support what Apple calls "the latest web standards."
Developers interested in making sure their websites are ready for the iPad should read Apple Technical Note TN2262: Preparing Your Web Content for iPad.
