Oh, Apple, you devious little scamps! The cool kids in Cupertino have complied with a July court order in the U.K. acknowledging that Samsung didn't infringe on the iPad design with the Galaxy Tab -- but added a playful little twist at the end.
MacRumors is reporting that Apple's U.K. website has added a court-ordered acknowledgment stating Samsung did not rip off the design of the iPad, which must remain posted for one month.
"On 9th July 2012 the High Court of Justice of England and Wales ruled that Samsung Electronic (UK) Limited’s Galaxy Tablet Computer, namely the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Tab 8.9 and Tab 7.7 do not infringe Apple’s registered design No. 0000181607-0001," the web page reads.
Apple couldn't help but quote two paragraphs straight from the judge's mouth to help explain the reason for the judgment, which includes running a number of ads in the U.K. as well.
"It is a cool design," the judge said of Apple's iPad after describing the tablet in loving detail, before moving to to a less-impressive description of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
"[Samsung Galaxy Tablets] do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design," the judge stated before one final twist of the knife. "They are not as cool."
Apple closes its statement by also pointing out that a case in Germany involving the same iPad patent came to the opposite conclusion, "that Samsung engaged in unfair competition by copying the iPad design" -- and also reminding folks that a U.S. jury found Samsung guilty of even more, slapping them with more than one billion dollars in damages.
"So while the U.K. court did not find Samsung guilty of infringement, other courts have recognized that in the course of creating its Galaxy tablet, Samsung willfully copied Apple's far more popular iPad," the statement concludes.
