Lost among Wednesday’s “Back to the Mac” event news were a trio of patches that hit Software Update, bringing a laundry list of fixes for Aperture as well as Java Update 3 and a new ProKit Update.
TUAW is reporting that Apple fired up the Software Update engine on Wednesday afternoon in the wake of their “Back to the Mac” media event, offering up a trio of new updates which squash bugs and improve reliability.
The biggest of the trio is an Aperture 3.1 update, weighing in at almost 375MB. As usual we have the standard improvements to “overall stability and performance” as well as compatibility with the new iLife ’11 suite introduced on Wednesday -- but there’s also an insane number of bug fixes in every area, including Library, Adjustments, Faces, Printing, Slideshows, Places, Metadata and General. Seriously, it’s a huge list -- we’ve seen major OS software updates that don’t have so many bug fix notes!
Next up is Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3, a 78MB update that brings Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_22. No kidding, it’s that simple.
Last but not least is a roughly 14MB ProKit Update for Snow Leopard, which “fixes issues with user interface software that is shared by Apple’s professional applications,” including Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Aperture, Final Cut Express, Soundtrack, Logic Studio, Logic Pro, MainStage, WaveBurner and Logic Express. (Whew!)
ProKit Update 6.0.1 also specifically improves reliability for browsing iPhoto libraries in Aperture, addresses a cosmetic issue with the appearance of disclosure triangles in Aperture and fixes a problem in Logic Pro and MainStage where numeric parameters display incorrect information.
To nab the three updates, simply fire up your Mac OS X Software Update or head to Apple’s website if you prefer to download and install on your own.
