The engineers at Apple were working overtime this weekend tuning up their beta versions for developers, with iTunes Match once again opening its doors for another round of testing as well as a new seed of OS X Lion 10.7.2 which now incorporates iCloud.
MacRumors is reporting that Apple has kept developers busy over the past weekend as the company continues to fine-tune its forthcoming fall software offerings. Cupertino is gearing up to release iCloud, iOS 5 and an accompanying OS X Lion 10.7.2 update soon which ties everything together, including the $24.99 per year iTunes Match offering which promises to scan and match your iTunes library against 18 million songs in Apple’s store, offering high-quality downloads for one annual fee -- regardless of where your original copy came from.
On Saturday, Apple notified developers that the virtual doors for iTunes Match had swung open yet again, requiring the iTunes 10.5 beta 8 released on Friday. Unfortunately, judging from developer comments on Twitter, the system is still very much a beta, often matching only a fraction of a user’s iTunes library -- which is no doubt why the service is soliciting developers for help in the first place.
“iTunes Match beta testing has now been expanded to additional developers in the United States,” reads the email sent to developers on Saturday afternoon. “iTunes Match stores your music library in iCloud and allows you to enjoy your collection from anywhere, any time, on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer.”
Meanwhile, on Sunday Apple pushed out a new OS X Lion 10.7.2 with iCloud beta build 11C55 to developers. The new seed is mostly notable for its inclusion of iCloud, which has previously been a separate download and install after developers updated to OS X 10.7.2. According to MacRumors, there are “no known issues with the latest build,” although Apple has requested developers to focus on a few key areas including Address Book, iCal, iChat, iCloud, Mail and more.
Apple will certainly have their hands full this fall updating all of the various components that tie into the new iOS 5 release, including iTunes 10.5, iWork for iOS and Mac, iCloud, iPhoto 9.2 (for Photo Stream) and OS X Lion 10.7.2.
