Following up to a story from this past Tuesday, the YGN Ethical Hacker Group now claims that Apple has fixed the security issues the group previously uncovered on an Apple Developer Website.
YGN identified the issues on April 25 and immediately notified Apple. Although Apple responded on April 27, they did not fix the problems, and YGN threatened to go public with information about how to exploit the security issues a few days ago. According to YGN, just one day after the news spread about their threat, Apple finally fixed the issues.
According to Network World, YGN announced in an email today that "As Apple has replied that they have fixed the issue, we've released the information at our blog."
This development closes the latest chapter of YGN Ethical Hacker Group playing vigilante on the web. Earlier this year, YGN used similar tactics to force changes to the websites of McAfee and Oracle after uncovering security issues. YGN performs unauthorized scans of high profile websites in order to uncover vulnerabilities, and then threatens the website owners to take corrective action or they will release details of the security issues to the public. These unauthorized scans could be considered illegal activity under U.S. law. YGN counters that they are only trying to make the web a better place.
