What happens when your primary business partner also "patents" one of your ideas? Well, FutureTap finally got a response in the ongoing "PatentGate" surrounding their Where To? app from Apple.
If you'll recall, Apple had patented an application quite eerily similar to FutureTap's Where To? which included a drawing quite similar to the main screen of Where To? but apparently that's about where the similarity ended.
Anand Sethuraman, Senior Patent Counsel with Apple, came back with the following response:
"As discussed, Apple is contemplating steps to attribute the screenshot in the patent application to FutureTap. The patent application in question does not claim as inventive the pictured user interface nor the general concept of an integrated travel services application. We appreciate your taking time out to discuss the matter and will keep you updated."
FutureTap seemed to accept Apple's statement and is planning to move forward. So there you have it!
