So it looks as though all those rumors about a new Apple TV are true, after all. According to Bloomberg, Apple should announce the new device at a media event in April but we won't see it on the shelves until "the holiday season." But here's the biggest news--it looks as though that long-awaited deal with Time-Warmer might come to pass with the release.
The update will also bring modifications to the user interface and an improved processor. Apple TV's existing interface has become a little unwieldy with all the channels Apple's been releasing over the last year, and it'll certainly need new navigation tools if the Cupertino company partners with Time-Warner for content.
Unfortunately, it's possible that we'll have to wait longer to see it. According to the report, "Apple is aiming to have the device available for sale by the Christmas holidays, though the release date could change because the company is still in the process of securing new agreements with programming and distribution partners, said two people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private."
This news has been in the works for some time. Last month, Apple TV received its own standalone section of the Apple Online Store for the first time, and rumors of new hardware have ranged from speculation about games and Bluetooth-supported controllers to a dedicated app store solely for the device itself. With today's news, those rumors are looking more and more like reality.
