9to5Mac is reporting that Apple has started to specifically reject apps that feature the word “iPad.” Developer Jesse Waites, creator of the ContactPad app, sent the website a shot of the e-mail he received from Apple regarding the naming dilemma.
Of course, this isn’t a new development on Apple’s part -- they also forbid using the word “iPod” in app titles as well.
Apple allows use of product names such as iPad or iPad under certain conditions as noted in Waites’ e-mail reply. In particular, the product name can be used “in a referential phrase such ‘runs on,’ ‘for use with,’ ‘for’ or ‘compatible with.’”
The most common of those appears to be “for iPad,” which a number of apps have been using since the device launched last week to denote a version specific to the iPad.
