It’s only the tail end of October, but everyone knows that the holiday season is imminent. Apple knows it too, which is probably why they released an update to their Apple Store app on Tuesday which adds engraving, gift wrapping and for some, white iPhone 4s. Say what?!
Apple updated their Apple Store app to version 1.1 on Tuesday morning, bringing the iOS shopping experience another step closer to parity with the Apple.com website. Sadly there’s still no iPad universal compatibility, but there are some goodies worth taking a look at anyway.
If you frequently have the need to engrave or gift wrap your Apple purchases -- and let’s face it, Christmas will be here before you know it -- you’ll be happy to know that the Apple Store app has now gained those superpowers.
The app is also a lot more helpful when you need to visit an actual Apple Store, allowing you to reserve products for pickup at one of the company’s many retail locations. You can even check in for reservations or even request help right from within the store, assuming you have an iOS 4 device. Finally, your Apple Retail Store reservations can now be added to iCal so you won’t forget them.
We’re guessing this last Apple Store addition was a gaffe on Cupertino’s part, but BGR is reporting that the mythical white iPhone 4 is showing up in the revised app -- if you know how to find it.
“Navigating to the store of your choice, selecting the ‘Reservations’ tab, followed by ‘Reserve Product’ will actually allow you to select the white iPhone 4 in either 16GB or 32GB configurations,” the website reports.
Before you get all tingly at the prospect of ordering a white iPhone 4 today, remember that Apple has made no official announcement -- making a reservation to pick one up will likely lead to disappointment followed by a spiral of depression once you realize the white handset still doesn’t exist. Here’s hoping that its appearance in the Apple Store app (hidden though it may be) could be an indication that it will finally arrive in time for the holidays -- assuming that anyone still cares.
