I just assumed that they had licensed these. Since they can't manufacture or re-use MagSafe cords, I guess their only alternative is to make batteries with standard wall outlets. Bummer.

Actually, they couldn't have ponied up the money to license Apple's connector technology, because Apple stubbornly refuses to license the MagSafe connector. So sadly, HyperMac's products were the ONLY products on the market that offered external battery solutions for the MacBook, and now those may be taken away from us too.
