The iPad has launched Apple into third place in the market of portable tablet computers. The Cupertino-based company is currently surpassing the likes of other tech giants, such as Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba, and even Dell.
Deutsche Bank's Chris Whitmore believes that investors will really look at tablet computers when assessing consumer technology trends. "When including the iPad as part of the [notebook] market. Apple leapt over Asus, Lenovo, Toshiba and Dell in terms of global unit share," he writes.
Apple went from being the seventh in the portable computer market to number three, trailing behind HP and Acer. Whitmore says there's nothing stopping Apple now.
"Our retail checks suggest this share shift continues in July, where the iPad is directly cannibalizing demand for other vendors' NB products." he wrote. "Remarkably, Apple's traditional MacBook business posted accelerated unit growth on a Y/Y basis in 2Q despite the launch of the iPad while every other Top 5 vendor slowed."
The era has come where a mobile tablet is on par with notebook computers. Is this a battle of the best mobile technology? Hopefully, Apple will be able to see this one all the way through.
