Despite some wild speculation about shipping delays on the new Apple TV, customers who preordered the refreshed box after the September 1 media event where it was introduced are now seeing their shipment status changed -- or even getting shipment confirmations.
MacRumors is reporting that the first batch of new Apple TV units are on their way or preorder customers, or at least having their status updated to “Prepared for Shipment” (as our particular unit currently shows, having updated overnight). North American customers appear to be getting the initial shipment from Shenzhen, China as is typical with new Apple product launches, via FedEx.

There was some confusion about the delivery date for the Apple TV last week, with the Apple Store showing a two to three week delay which some assumed to mean that the device was being delayed from its promised September ship date. Others reported that their credit cards were being charged, while still others claimed that Apple had refunded their expedited shipping fee after being notified that the company was having difficulty meeting those delivery commitments.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs quelled some of the fears by responding to a customer e-mail that initial orders would indeed be shipped in September, which appears to be the case now that the boxes are actually moving through FedEx (or about to be).
So how about you, dear readers? Anyone have a preorder that shows “Prepared for Shipment” or one that’s even already on its way?
