According to DailyTech, if you were hoping that your iPhone would see the MyFord Touch app shortly, you're going to have to wait until 2011 for that to happen. During a Ford Fiesta press event, engineers from the company provided confirmation that the MyFord Touch app, which would include the latest update of SYNC, won't be interfacing with the iPhone till next year.
However, if you have a BlackBerry, or Android phone, you could be in luck, as both RIM and Google approved of Ford's AppLink initiative, which would allow for smartphone apps to sync to the car as well as be controlled by the same controls for the primary SYNC platform.
Ford has developed separate APIs after working hand in hand with engineers at both RIM and Google. Ford engineers disclosed to DailyTech that Pandora was able to have their app Ford-ready in 3 days on the Android OS.
Thus we come to the iPhone. Why no support? Ford's engineers said that this was due in part to Apple requiring that Ford install special computer chips in-vehicle to let the MyTouch system know that it would be working with "trusted apps."
Even though Ford had fully functional demos of its app, Apple doesn't want to have anything to do with it, until Ford vehicles have the authentications chips in place.
