If you're a competitive sort who's still rocking an iPhone 3G or 2G iPod touch, this isn't your morning. Buried amongst the changes of yesterday's latest seeding of iOS 4.1's developer build was the quiet removal of Game Center support for the two older Apple mobile devices.
So. Not. Cool.
For those of you still new to the darker, more competitive side of Apple mobile gaming (honestly, who of us has to right to call ourselves anything but a noob--iOS 4.0 still has that new software smell, y'know?), Game Center is Apple's one-stop shop for applications to network their high score postings, leaderboards, achievements and multiplayer matchmaking. At this time, Apple hasn't provided an explanation for why the service has been made unavailable to their older hardware, but Mac|Life will be sure to update you as soon as word comes down from the mountain.
In the meantime, to scratch that got-to-beat-the-other-guy itch, can we suggest you join us for Frag The Editor Fridays?
