The arcade shooter is a genre on life support. It is only by the grace of a very small (but apparently sufficient) niche of fans that the genre has managed to survive so many years beyonds its prime. Fast Striker is a call back to that age of shooters, and reinvigorates the classic bullet-hell style of 2D gameplay with more intense action and shinier graphics.
If pressed to describe the style of Fast Striker's gameplay, we'd call it something like a cross between the modern-retro classic Galaga Legions mixed with Treasure's titanically difficult Dreamcast shooter, Ikaruga. Despite the need for precision that the 2D shooter tends to require (which is very hard to achieve on a touch screen,) the genre has seen a number of critical successes such as John Kooistra's Blue Attack! [iTunes Link] and Space Invaders: Infinity Gene [iTunes Link]. We're hoping for the same levels of success from Fast Striker.
Fast Striker [iTunes Link] released yesterday for iOS 3.2+ and is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, and 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch. Check out the video for yourself below, but be warned, these types of shooters are traditionally very difficult.
