If you fancy yourself an artist but prefer a digital canvas, the makers of ArtRage for the Mac and PC have now landed on everyone’s favorite tablet, allowing oil painting right on your iPad canvas.
ArtRage has announced the availability of ArtRage for iPad version 1.0.4. If you’re not familiar with ArtRage on the Mac or PC, the software provides the experience of actually “painting” digital with oil paints that smear and blend as well as watercolors that flow together to create soft, wet gradations, just as they would in a traditional art studio.
Now, all of that digital magic has arrived on the iPad, which seems ready-made for an app like ArtRage. The new ArtRage for iPad 1.0.4 brings iOS 4.2 features including AirPrint support and multitasking, so you can leave your latest creation to check the news, watch a video or read an e-book and pick right back up where you left off when you return.
Other improvements to ArtRage for iPad include significant enhancements to stability and memory handling, user-definable canvas sizing, quick access color sampling, precise zoom level and user interface enhancements, including current preset highlights and other visual feedback.
As proof that apps like ArtRage for the iPad will revolutionize the digital medium, the company even co-sponsored an event in San Francisco earlier this month called Future/Canvas to display the work of modern mobile artists. While that event is over, you can get a peek at what was displayed on the Future/Canvas website.
ArtRage for iPad is available now from the App Store for $6.99 and requires iOS 3.2 or later; it’s only compatible with the iPad.
