Buy games immediately, with or without pants.
Aspyr Media has launched its digital download store, GameAgent, where Mac gamers can currently buy a couple titles. We mean that literally; Call of Duty 4 and FutureU make up the initial Mac lineup at $54.99 and $39.99, while PC gamers can get five total titles. The GameAgent downloads were originally intended to tie to the Mac GameAgent client that tests system performance. But so far, all commerce runs through the website, built on top of Digital River middleware.
GameAgent allows purchasers to download a given title once to a single Mac. Then gamers can de-authorize and install the game on a new computer two more times. A $4.99-per-game Extended Download Service lets gamers re-download titles for up to two years, something the FAQ calls "an insurance policy in case anything goes wrong with your computer."
Aspyr is continuing to add more titles to the store, having to clear distribution rights for games it has previously published physically. According to a public relations spokesperson, the company hopes to build up the current digital catalog "over the next few months" and expand into the back catalog of titles that aren't available on retail shelves.
