Atari Launches Massively Epic Retro Gaming App

Retro gaming enthusiasts have a whole lot to be pleased about today. Atari just announced that they are releasing an enormous hub app for dozens of the best retro classics of all time called Atari's Greatest Hits [iTunes Link]. If your Atari has fallen into disrepair or you simply can't be bothered to lug around that giant piece of wood and plastic anymore you might want to consider dropping a measly $14.99 on this compilation. Or you can selectively go through and buy packs of 4 games for 99 cents.
Refreshingly, there are no sales schemes at work here either. In many of these kinds of bundles, the classics are spaced out evenly. If you want a classic like Missile Command, sometimes they'll make you buy some unknown junk games with it. Not so, here. Games that are bundled together appear to be very relevant to each other.
The App has already been released in the New Zealand App Store which means we should be seeing it go live in the West in a matter of days or even hours. The App itself is free with a copy of PONG included. Additional game packs are purchased within the app (or buy the entire collection for $14.99.) Check out the full list below to see if anything piques your interest.

This article has 2 amazing omissions:
1. Is this an iPhone, iPad, or Mac app? (or some combination). Answer: iPhone and iPad.
2. This is Atari's delivery on their promise to provide games for the iCade. What's the iCade? A cool mini-arcade cabinet that you can slide your iPad into and play games with classic arcade hardware controls. (thinkgeek.com/icade). MacLife covered the iCade at MacWorld this year: maclife.com/article/videos/video_icade_brings_thinkgeeks_april_fools_ipad_arcade_cabinet_life

Excellent additions, thanks! And even if I can't get my hands on an iCade, those Fling Joystick thingies would make these games shine I bet. Man, I miss Tempest & Battlezone.
