Cydia also sells PDANet, by June Fabrics Technology for $15.95, a one time payment. Beats the heck out of dropping your unlimited plan, and pays for itself in less than a month. No 2GB restriction, either.

Cydia sells a $20 hotspot app that uses your current data plan. There's no monthly charge from AT&T.

i use virgin mobile mifi, $40 a month and no contact and no month to month (i think they just changed the rates though). i pay when i need it.

i have a skype number that i pay $40 a year for. i use my iphone without any plan, use skype and mifi and have no problems. i do have a pay as you go cell phone that i could use if necessary but haven't had to so far. all my calls are through skype and i've never had a problem (going on 4 years now).

yeah, i do have to carry the iphone and the mifi but it's not that big a deal.

Ok what should I do??? - If I have iPhon4,iPad & Mac Book Pro. Both iPhone & iPad I have UNLIMITED data plans. The only reason I would want to down-grade to the Data Pro is to be able to Tether my Mac Book Pro when away from WiFi...Would that be worth it to give up Unlimited on iPhone 4 ?

It's not all rainbows and butterflies on Verizon's end, however. If one looks at the compatibility of devices on Apple's iOS 4.3 info page, it says pretty specifically that only the AT&T iPhone 4 is going to get the update.

That's because it's already on the Verizon iPhone--where I can assure you--it is all rainbows and butterflies.

Good to know, thanks.

I don't understand this at all, Why would ATT charge $20 more just for the ability to connect (yes i know it adds another 2gb of data), it just doesn't make since to pay $20 extra just to "activate" a feature that your phone is capable of doing. I know that in the end (well on ATT's end) its all about MONEY, but come on that's just ridiculous!

PASS...I am on the grandfather plan, as I have been with ATT forever. Now Apple makes it possible for my phone to be a hub away from home which would make it convenient to take my iPad along, but Nooooooooooooooooo, ATT wants me to give up my unlimited so that i can pay more for the occasional hot spot. PASS..need more competition please. Step it up Verizon.

Verizon has clearly stepped it up, and seems to be winning here. $45 versus $25.

I have been using the Clear hotspot which allows for 5 connections and am very pleased. Unlimited 4G and 5gigs of 3G per month for $45. I didn't have to sign a contract, however I believe that is an online or call in deal.

I just wish they would add tethering to the unlimited plan. I wouldn't mind paying the extra $20 for it!!

While tethering prices seem high (are high); I just came home from a few weeks of travel. Many hotels seem have lousy cell service in their rooms, and charge as much as $25/day for wi-fi. I was in a Westin for 5 days in which I had to stand next to the window to get a cell signal. At least I could have put my iphone near the window and used the hotspot feature for my iPad and MacBook.

yeah they are trying to rip me off, because the price went down and they think I signed a new contract with my 3GS, and I said nope. I never did and i never will. When the contract ends I will just wait until the second phone contract ends then maybe I will think about staying. The second phones contract ends in January 2012.
