If you're lucky enough to live in one of 15 markets, AT&T wants to blanket your domicile in the soothing comfort of automation and security, all controlled from the palm of your hand with most any smartphone.
AT&T announced Friday that its Digital Life home management and automation system has now officially launched in 15 markets across the United States, with an addition 50 markets coming by year's end.
If you live in Atlanta; Austin; Texas; Boulder, Colo.; Chicago; Dallas; Denver; Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; Philadelphia; Riverside, Calif.; San Francisco;Seattle; St. Louis; or "select areas of the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area," you can now sign up for AT&T Digital Life starting at $29.99 per month plus $149.99 for equipment and installation.
At its core, AT&T Digital Life is a 24/7, professionally monitored home security system. But the service extends beyond that task, offering an "all-digital, fully integrated, wireless home management system" that can be controlled from any web browser or apps for iOS, Android or Windows Phone devices.
This integration allows customers full control over installed cameras, door locks, turning lights on or off, changing thermostats and even small appliances, all with complete customization -- depending on how much you pay for the service each month, of course.
AT&T offers two basic security packages ("Simple" or "Smart"), with five additional paid options available on the more expensive plan for adding live video, saving energy, remote door automation and water detection or control.
