AT&T Deploying 7.2Mbs Wireless in 6 Major Markets by Year End

AT&T may actually be doing something good, for once.
Randall H. Stephenson, CEO of AT&T, announced at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference that the wireless carrier is opening up 7.2Mbs in six major markets by the end of 2009.
This means that the iPhone 3GS will be able to take advantage of these super-fast speeds while older models of the iPhone will be capped at the 3.6Mbs limit.
So what markets are getting the "7dot2" lovin? According to the press release: Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami.

I just love how AT&T is so busy improving the speed of 3G in these markets when they still have EDGE only (and really really slow EDGE at that) in many markets and ZERO bars of any kind in plenty more. Coverage, coverage, coverage. That's what they should be focusing on. But no, they'd rather focus on speed in a few areas so that can have their stupid commercials claiming they have the fastest service. If you want to actually get on their network and access that faster service, that's another story all together.

They can't even get MMS on iPhone service, now they want to pile on more things they probably can't handle? I thought I had A.D.D.
