If you’re not a frequent user of text messaging with AT&T, you might be in for a shock next week -- the carrier looks to be consolidating their text message plans, eliminating the low and high ends and meeting somewhere in the middle.
GearLive is reporting that AT&T appears ready to make some revisions to their text messaging plans next week. According to a leaked screenshot from Best Buy, the carrier plans to eliminate their two current packages and consolidate them into a new one priced at $10 per month for 1,000 text messages.
“Above is an image leaked out of Best Buy showing that AT&T will have two text messaging plans going forward,” GearLive revealed. “The first is a new $10 per month for 1000 text messages (with each additional costing 10 cents,) while the second is the $20 unlimited text plan ($30 for family plans). Going away are the $5/200 message and $15/1500 message plans.”
The good news with this change is that existing customers will be grandfathered in, meaning they can keep their existing text message plans -- even through upgrades or other changes to their account.
GearLive is also reported that AT&T will be raising their activation fees come January 23, which certainly isn’t going to make many holdouts want to pick up an iPhone 4 from the carrier after Verizon Wireless unleashes their CDMA version on February 10.
