According to FMSdotCOM's source, it seems that AT&T will be able to enable MMS for all iPhone users with the 3.1 software update, which is expected to drop sometime this month, hopefully. This will be perfect timing with what we all heard from WWDC 2009 - "MMS on AT&T will be available later this summer."
Recently, a modmyi user seems to have reported that he updated to iPhone OS 3.1 and saw that the MMS button was present in the messaging application. The user called AT&T to see what was happening, and they said they could enable MMS on his iPhone.
To quote the user from modmyi:
I just updated to 3.1fw and went to text my wife and I saw the little camera on my text so I click on it and I was able to choose the pic to send and it stop and the end, so I call AT&T, so they can enable the MMS on my iPhone, and they told the MMS going to be enable this week or Monday just give then till the end of the month.
Of course, Fall begins September 22. So AT&T has a few weeks to get MMS out before a huge posse of iPhone users descend upon the AT&T headquarters.
