AT&T posted an open letter and a video to address most of the issues folks have been having with the carrier concerning the launch of iPhone 3G S.
The best news is that AT&T customers that are eligible for an iPhone 3G S upgrade without a $200 tax in July, August or September, are now eligible for update on an June 19. AT&T states in their open letter:
We’re now pleased to
offer our iPhone 3G customers who are upgrade eligible in July, August
or September 2009 our best upgrade pricing, beginning Thursday, June 18.
Huzzah!
Be sure to check your status before wandering down to the AT&T store on Friday, just in case.
AT&T also addresses MMS and tethering features and reiterates its position that MMS will be here "late summer" and tethering is coming for the iPhone.
I was to be eligible in September. I checked yesterday (Wed) and it showed I was still ineligible. When I checked again this morning at 9am it had changed and showed me being eligible. I purchased online today, a 32GB for $299. I'll justs wait for it to arrive at my house
:-)
Check you eligibility tomorrow. In the video they state that the eligibility will change on friday. I got overly excited as well, but when I re-watched I noticed that it doesn't go into effect until tomorrow.
"All of that said, we’ve been listening to our customers. And since many of our iPhone 3G customers are early adopters and literally weeks shy of being upgrade eligible due to iPhone 3G S launching 11 months after iPhone 3G, we’re extending the window of upgrade eligibility for a limited time.
We’re now pleased to offer our iPhone 3G customers who are upgrade eligible in July, August or September 2009 our best upgrade pricing, beginning Thursday, June 18."
I bought the iPhone on the day it came out last year and spend over $100 a month on my bill, but they're STILL telling me that I'm not eligible for an upgrade until December. So I'm curious, who IS upgrade eligible? Thanks, AT&T, for offering us something you knew you weren't gonna deliver on.
What a crock of s**t.... iPhone users can upgrade, but non-iPhone users that have the same time left in their contract as iPhoine users are screwed up. That dam AT&T is being unfair.... whats good for one must be good for everyone.... treat us all as equal. F.U. AT&T !!!!
