Mobile World Congress may be an international event, but second-place U.S. carrier is certainly making its presence known in Barcelona this week as it unveils two new initiatives for global travelers and stateside customers alike.
AT&T announced Monday the addition of 13 new countries to its 4G LTE roaming lineup, allowing customers to enjoy faster data speeds even when they travel outside of the United States.
Launched in December with Canada and the U.K., AT&T's international data roaming on LTE is the first of its kind for U.S. carriers, and now extends to a total of 15 countries with the addition of Spain, France, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Guam, Philippines and Antigua & Barbuda.
AT&T has also launched an International Travel mobile app for iPhone and Android which allows customers to keep tabs on their current usage with customizable alerts and one-tap access to international customer care.
In a separate announcement Tuesday, AT&T also revealed that Mobile Share customers will soon be able to connect with family, friends and co-workers living abroad thanks to unlimited international messaging from the U.S. to more than 190 countries for text messages and 120 countries for picture and video messaging.
International messaging will be automatically added to existing Mobile Share accounts at no cost starting Friday, February 28. The carrier is also debuting a new World Connect Value calling plan for over 35 countries including Canada and Mexico that delivers calls to any number, anytime for only a penny per minute.
