If you’re one of the many disappointed by AT&T’s wireless data network, the telco hasn’t forgotten about you. In fact, one of the executives just promised that the company will “move heaven and Earth” to improve its network -- just for you!
9to5Mac is reporting that AT&T has again committed to improving its wireless data network. This time, the words have come straight from CTO John Donovan, who promises that the company will “move heaven and Earth” to improve the network while speaking at an industry event on Monday.
“We’re only at the beginning of the growth curve,” Donovan said, forecasting that the future will see only increased data quantities pouring through their mobile network. The company acknowledges that increased data requires an increased commitment to upgrades in order to keep up.
As far as the existing network quality issues, the CTO cites a number of challenges that contribute to the problem, including a “flood of new phones and apps” which have up-ended AT&T’s traditional testing and product launch models.
Donovan forecasts that by 2014 there will be a “huge explosion” in the quantity of mobile data usage, including “point-to-point video,” which is likely to include 3G FaceTime video calls by that point.
“The market is becoming more competitive, but it’s also presenting new opportunities for mobile carriers,” the CTO concluded.
