Popular adventure game developer Telltale Games has announced that their new game, set in the universe of the seminal 1980s sci-fi flick, Back to the Future, has released to the App Store. If you grew up wishing you could live in a world full of flux capacitors and irritable Libyans then this may be the best chance you'll ever get. Episode 1 features a completely new story set within the Back to the Future universe.
The story is set six months after Back to the Future 3. Marty has to help rescue Doc Brown from 1931 where the ancestors of Biff Tannen run a sinister bootlegging crime syndicate. We wont give away too much of the story, but suffice to say that Marty and Doc are forced to take action in order to save Hill Valley from being taken over by the Tannen family. Christopher Lloyd reprises his role at Doc Brown for the game, and although Michael J Fox was unable to participate the substitute does a fantastic job of filling in.
Telltale's other notable games include the very well received and long-running Sam and Max episodes, as well as the recent Poker Night at the Inventory and Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People.
Back to the Future Episode 1 [iTunes Link] is also available on Mac OS X as well as PC (released on December 22, 2010.) The PC and Mac versions are being released episodically alongside the iPad version, but you can buy the entire five episode package for $25. The iPad version of episode one by itself costs $6.99. The new episodes are said to be released monthly.
