We've been following the saga of Belkin's Thunderbolt Express Dock for quite some time, but the company has finally come through by shipping the long-awaited device.
Belkin announced Tuesday that its highly anticipated Thunderbolt Express Dock is now shipping after the company began accepting preorders back in February.
The $299.99 device allows up to eight devices to connect over one Thunderbolt cable, complete with a second Thunderbolt port for daisy-chaining up to five additional devices at the same time.
Designed to keep your workspace free of clutter, the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock includes three USB 3.0 ports, one FireWire 800 port, one Gigabit Ethernet port and a pair of 3.5mm audio in and out ports, all of which are capable of being used at the same time thanks to Thunderbolt's super-fast 10Gbps, bidirectional throughput.
Mac users in particular have been waiting for this day to arrive, with the only shipping solution available being Apple's Thunderbolt Display, which doesn't include audio in/out ports and remains stuck with a pair of USB 2.0 ports instead of the faster USB 3.0 included on current Macs.
Belkin is now shipping the Thunderbolt Express Dock from its online store, and the device will soon also be available from select retailers nationwide.
