If you aren’t one of those trendsetters who require only the latest and greatest hardware but you want to jump into the iOS pool anyway, the iPhone 3GS is still an extremely competent handset -- especially if you can get one for free on contract.
BGR is reporting that Friday, December 10 only -- that’s today! -- Best Buy Mobile is running a promotion for a free iPhone 3GS. In case you missed that last part, let’s repeat it: A free iPhone 3GS! Where Apple is concerned, deals such as this rarely come along, and it certainly trumps the recent RadioShack trade-in promotion.
Now for the fine print: You’ll still have to sign a two-year agreement with AT&T, but the promotion is valid for new lines, additional lines and qualified upgrades, so that should cover most everyone in the market for a free iPhone, which appears to be the base 8GB model (normal $99).
Finally, BGR’s Best Buy “ninjas” have it on good authority that “all stores have inventory levels to support the promotion,” which is one of their popular “instant rebate” kind of deals.
You’ll have to act fast, though -- the deal is good for today, Friday December 10 only.
