Despite rumors having run rampant last week that Best Buy could possibly have been in the doghouse in regard to their iPad 2 sales strategy, the major retailer confirmed in a statement that such was not the case. What is instead transpiring is that Best Buy is actually fulfilling customer reservations first.
"Best Buy continues to receive iPad 2 inventory from Apple on a regular basis," said the retailer. "As we've said previously, we are fulfilling customer reservations first. Our stores have been asked to temporarily hold on-reserved iPad 2 inventory for an upcoming promotion."
The original rumor was that Best Buy was reporting to shoppers that the iPad 2 was out of stock, when in fact the company had just reached a pre-determined daily sales quota and was holding iPad 2s in the back.
"This is a customary practice for us when there are supply constraints," the statement went on. "Best Buy enjoys a great partnership with Apple and we're delighted by customer response to iPad 2."
Said partnership dates back to the launch of the original iPad just about a year ago. In the meantime, Apple hasn't commented on the speculation.
