There’s no doubt that Apple’s latest MacBook Air is a hot item with consumers, and rumors have recently pointed to a refresh coming down the pipeline any day now. A new report claims that inventory is constrained at major retailers, which is usually a good sign that a new model is on the way.
9to5Mac is reporting that right now may not be such a good time to fork over cash for a new MacBook Air -- that is if you’re in the market for the rumored Sandy Bridge processor and Thunderbolt port that are said to be coming with the next model. Even if you do plan to buy from Best Buy’s website or Amazon.com anytime soon, you may find yourself unable to do so.
That’s because Best Buy’s website recently “placed all four of the current MacBook Air models on ‘not available’ for shipping,” the report claims. “This typically means that supplies are so constrained that they have to focus their remaining inventory on their popular physical retail stores. BestBuy.com does not provide a date for when they will be shipping the notebooks again, but these types of things are usually indicative of a product refresh. Even more so because we know one is coming very soon. Additionally, a number of stores have indicated to us that they are exceptionally low on MacBook Air stock.”

Likewise, stock appears to be extremely low in a number of Amazon’s international storefronts ahead of unconfirmed “whispers about the new MacBook Airs launching the week of July 4th.”
Thankfully that’s just around the corner, so with any luck MacBook Air shoppers won’t have to wait long to get their notebook on -- and may benefit from an even speedier model that’s ready to get a blast of Thunderbolt to boot.
