Is the iPhone starting to feel dated? If you agree, you're in the same camp as BlackBerry, whose CEO has come out swinging against the iconic Apple device by calling the user interface dated.
AllThingsD is reporting that BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins isn't mincing words when it comes to his opinion of the iPhone's user interface, which has remained largely unchanged since its debut in 2007.
“The rate of innovation is so high in our industry that if you don’t innovate at that speed you can be replaced pretty quickly,” Heins told The Australian Financial Review on Sunday. “The user interface on the iPhone, with all due respect for what this invention was all about, is now five years old.”
Before you start thinking Heins is simply being a cocky so-and-so, the CEO knows he's got a challenge ahead with BlackBerry 10, and does manage to give Apple credit for helping move things forward where smartphones are concerned.
“Apple did a fantastic job in bringing touch devices to market,” he said. “They did a fantastic job with the user interface, they are a design icon. There is a reason why they were so successful, and we actually have to admit this and respect that.”
We'll have to wait and see later this year if Apple agrees the iOS look is getting stale as the company will undoubtedly launch iOS 7 alongside new devices soon enough.
