BlackBerry smartphones may be called "crackberries," but there are a lot of BlackBerry users out there who are planning to break the cycle of addiction as soon as they have a chance. Their replacement "drug" of choice? an iPhone.
A new
Crowd Science survey has shown that 4 of 10 BlackBerry and other smart phone users plan to move over to the Apple iPhone. Meanwhile, only 14-percent of other smart phone users would consider a BlackBerry as their next smart phone purchase.
"These results reflect the great challenges Blackberry faces in stemming the iPhone stampede," says Crowd Science CEO John Martin. "They are also a great example of the kind of insight that can be gleaned when rigorous sampling and research techniques are applied to online populations. In the days ahead, we’ll lean on our research platform and continue to gauge the mindset of smart phone users and address the changing mobile landscape, including the Palm Pre, the iPhone 3G S and other up-to-the minute developments."
The Crowd Science survey also found that iPhone users report a higher overall satisfaction with their device compared to BlackBerry users, thanks to the iPhone’s screen size, easy navigation, availability of apps, and video playback.
Also, 71-percent of smartphone owners use them for business and personal, with only 3-percent for business alone.
