Apple has scored another high-profile publication for its iPad subscription model, this time Bloomberg Businessweek -- and it’s one of the most affordable, at a mere 75 cents per issue with an introductory subscription.
9to5Mac is reporting that Bloomberg Businessweek has released their iPad app on Monday, offering existing subscribers of the print edition free access with validation. For everyone else, in-app subscriptions are offered courtesy of Apple’s new requirements, which put a 30 percent cut in the hands of Cupertino.
The app is free to download, and that download also gets you a free issue to download -- after that, you’ll need to either activate your existing print subscription or pay up at $2.99 per month, which comes out to about 75 cents per issue for the weekly publication.
Bloomberg Businessweek isn’t looking to directly compete with digital-only publications -- rather, it’s simply a digital version of the print magazine. According to The Wall Street Journal’s MediaMemo blog, the app also adds a bonus introductory video with editor Josh Tyrangiel as well.
“Other features include built-in search that works across all your issues, portrait and landscape support, custom personal archives accessible from any issue, social sharing, font sizes and more,” explains 9to5Mac.
According to Bloomberg, a full 17 percent of their print subscribers own an iPad, which makes the new app kind of a no-brainer for them. The free 3.5MB iPad-only download is available now and requires iOS 4.2 or later.
