The iPad launched on April 3, 2010. 453 days later, there are over 100,000+ apps available. It is an eye-opening achievement, and positions the iPad for continued dominance in the very lopsided tablet market.
Sometime this week the Apple App Store passed a huge milestone: over 100,000 apps for the iPad. Mac enthusiast site, MacStories reported on the milestone earlier today. It is difficult to nail down exactly when iPad apps hit six figures, but CNNMoney does a nice job of listing a few different sites, each with a slightly different number, but all north of 100K. The number looms even larger when you take into account that Steve Jobs was just bragging on having 65,000 iPad apps at the end of March, and it took iPhone 32 days longer to reach the same number.
To put it in perspective, and shed some (more) glow on the "iPad owns the tablet market" preaching, Google's Android Market has just over 1,000 tablet apps. This is a huge head start that will provide Apple with a cushion to continue to innovate while the competition plays catch up.
