If you use the iPhone camera at all, you know tapping the screen to take a picture can be a royal pain, especially if you're trying to take a self-portrait. The iPhone 4's front-facing camera doesn't make things that much better, since photos are lower resolution. And really, tapping the touch screen to capture is just not very ergonomic. Well, against Apple's better judgement, TapTapTap's Camera+ app provides us with a solution.
Camera+ 1.2.1's developers wanted to add a hardware shutter button to the iPhone, so they chose to make the volume switch trigger the camera shutter. Of course, Apple rejected it, saying it would confuse users. Lucky for us, the devolopers added the feature anyway--it just requires a little stealth activation.
Still listening? If you want the feature and have Camera+ 1.2.1, just type the url camplus://enablevolumesnap into Mobile Safari, and it will be enabled. To switch it off, type camplus://disablevolumesnap.
Who knows how long it'll be before Apple requires the developers to remove the feature, or before they take the app down entirely. It's only $1.99 though, so grab it while you can!
